Painter Blends

I just finished up two painter blends to add to my services. One is of my daughter Katelynne, the other is an image I created of myself and Katelynne for our home that I played with using this technique.

It was first painted in Corel Painter, then finished off in Photoshop tweaking colors and blending with textures found on the web.

My daughter painted

This is a painting I did of a recent portrait of my daughter.

This first version had a vignette around it, and I was really up in the air about that. I got some great feedback from friends on Paint Outside the Frame about that.....it distracted more than drew the eye due to certain elements of the portrait, like the plain wall at top with little detail to bring the vignette out to the bottom of the image being more detailed which made the painting look "unfinished".  So, I nixed the vignette. Although a friend on Pro4um liked it.

The updated version is without the vignette, more visually appealing now.

For this painting I used Den's brushes, funky chunky throughout, skin blended with oily blender from the Corel Painter IX software. Her hair was painted using Den's bristle brush. I added touches of color in her shirt using Den's oil luscious brush, then blended the colors and rough spots of the shirt with the grainy blender from the Corel Painter IX software.

I always tweak my paintings in Photoshop giving it a better color balance (I love the more tungsten look of the old masters) giving it more reds and yellows in the shadows and midtones, and a touch of yellow in the highlights. Then I adjust the shadow/highlight and the contrast. Then I love to give it more tweak using Lucis Art, using the exposure feature and the sculpture feature, but using them on layers to adjust the intensity.

And that's it!  I really love the final result.  I think I will print it large for my home.  :)
